At Moltons Dental, we perform gentle tooth extractions to stabilise your oral health and alleviate pain associated with conditions such as gum disease, cavities and dental trauma.

Before any tooth extraction, we will discuss your tooth replacement options and explain the process behind each clearly and in a jargon-free manner. While you can choose not to address the issues of a missing tooth following an extraction, we recommend replacing gaps in your teeth to protect your oral and emotional health for the future.

We offer options, including dentures, bridges, and implants, all of which are custom-made to fit your smile. If you would like to proceed with tooth replacement following an extraction, we can provide you with a temporary tooth (or set of teeth) while your jaw heals.

When is tooth extraction required?

A tooth extraction may be necessary in the following scenarios:

  • Decay: You have severe tooth decay that has caused the living tissues within the tooth to die beyond repair.
  • Gum disease: You are suffering from advanced gum disease (periodontitis), and your teeth have become loose.
  • Dental trauma: You have suffered a dental injury, such as a blow to the face, causing a cracked or partially knocked-out tooth.
  • Crowded teeth: Your teeth are crowded. We may sometimes need to remove some crowded teeth before teeth straightening treatment.
  • Wisdom tooth crowding and infections: Wisdom teeth can erupt at an awkward angle, compromising oral health and increasing the risk of infection.

Helping you to relax, with a little help from IV sedation

Alongside the routine use of anaesthetic to numb the treatment site before a tooth extraction, we can also offer IV sedation, which is a safe and effective way to extinguish feelings of anxiety and phobia.

IV (intravenous) sedation is a conscious mode of sedation so that you will be fully awake throughout. Once the sedative takes effect, you will experience deep relaxation and become oblivious to your nerves about the procedure.

Your dentist can explain the benefits of sedation during tooth extraction and determine whether you would be a suitable candidate.

What should I do in a dental emergency? down black rustic rose circle arrow down black white circle arrow

In the event of a dental emergency, please contact us immediately. If you’re experiencing severe pain, swelling, or an injury to your teeth or gums, please call us during office hours, and we will do our best to accommodate you for an urgent appointment.

How often should I have a dental check-up? down black rustic rose circle arrow down black white circle arrow

At Moltons Dental, we recommend having a dental check-up every six months. Regular visits help us detect any potential issues early, such as tooth decay, gum disease, or other oral health concerns, before they become more serious. However, depending on your individual needs—such as a history of dental problems, gum disease, or ongoing treatments—we may suggest more frequent visits.

Your dentist will work with you to create a personalised check-up schedule that best supports your long-term oral health.
